Looking to buy the best Class 2+ car insurance policy in Thailand? Look no further! Our platform offers extensive customization options enabling you to tailor your coverage to suit your needs. Type 2+ policies start from just 4 500 baht per year.

What is Voluntary Motor Insurance Type 2+?

Type 2+ Car Insurance is a mid-level coverage option available in Thailand. It provides good protection for your vehicle and liability coverage though not as comprehensive as Type 1. It's often referred to as "Third-party fire and theft plus own damage" insurance.

Type 2+ car insurance is the second most popular car insurance type in Thailand as it provides more coverage at an affordable price. Type 2+ car insurance usually covers:

  • Damage from vehicle-to-vehicle accident
  • Damage to your car from fire and theft
  • Damage caused to others and their vehicles or property
  • Driver/passenger accident cover
  • Bail bond coverage

What's the difference between Type 2+ insurance and other types of car insurance?

Type 2+ car insurance offers a balance between coverage and cost. It protects your car against fire and theft and covers damages to third parties. At the same time it protects your car from other vehicles.

Type 1 car insurance offers the most comprehensive coverage protecting you your car and others involved in accidents regardless of fault.

Type 3 and 3+ car insurance only covers the damage you cause to other vehicles and people. Type 3+ also offers protection for your vehicle from other vehicles similar to type 2+ car insurance.

What does Type 2+ Car Insurance Cover?

What's usually covered

All policies differ but in general a Type 2+ car insurance policy will include cover and compensation for:

  • Vehicle-to-vehicle damages
  • Fire damage
  • Theft
  • Flood* (Not all Policies Include This)
  • Third-party liability
  • Personal injury
  • Medical expenses
  • Bail bond coverage

What's usually not covered

Your policy will also list out exclusions which you won't be covered for. Some typical exclusions are:

  • Other Collision Damage without a third party
  • Negligence
  • Wear and tear
  • Invalid driving license
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or any illegal drugs
  • Damage to your own property

How much does Type 2+ Car insurance in Thailand Cost?

Type 2+ Car Insurance offers a good balance between coverage and affordability. You can expect to pay around 7 000 baht in premiums for type 2+ Insurance for your car. Our Type 2+ policies start at just 5 500 baht. The cost of your Type 2+ Car Insurance in Thailand will depend on several factors:

  • Vehicle make model and year
  • Location (province or city)
  • Age of the driver

While prices can vary typically ranging from 5 500 THB to 20 000 THB many Thai drivers find Type 2+ Insurance to be a cost-effective option that provides essential coverage.

How can I get Cheaper Type 2+ Car insurance in Thailand?

There are several ways to reduce your premiums for Type 2+ Insurance:

Excess or Deductible

Choosing a higher deductible can lower your premium. But make sure you can afford the higher out-of-pocket expense if you need to make a claim.

Dealership and Garage Repairs

While the Dealership Repair plan will repair your car at an official brand dealership with original manufacturer parts Garage Repair may use aftermarket parts for your repairs. That being said garage repair plans are significantly cheaper and sometimes repairs are done better.

Adjusting your coverage levels

Lowering your coverage will also lower your premium. Adjust your coverage to the levels you need but don't go too low - higher coverage with a higher premium often turns out more cost-effective in the long run.

Named Driver

By naming no more than two drivers on your policy you can often lower your insurance cost premium.

Maintaining a clean driving record

Having a clean driving record will ensure your renewal premium stays where it is. Some insurers offer no-claims bonuses for accident-free years as well.

Remember while saving money is important ensure you're not compromising on essential coverage. Balancing cost with adequate protection is key to getting the best value from your Type 2+ Car Insurance in Thailand.

Special Coverage and Additional Extras

While Type 2+ insurance doesn't offer as many extras as Type 1 some providers may offer additional coverage options:

24/7 Roadside Assistance cover

This may be available as additional coverage like towing battery jump-starts and lockout assistance.

Remember that Type 2+ insurance focuses mainly on third-party liability fire and theft. Additional coverages may be more limited compared to Type 1 policies but these options can help customize your policy to better suit your needs.

Additional Options for your car insurance policy

Deductible/ excess

When purchasing an insurance policy the insured typically has the option to select a deductible and excess amount. The deductible is the amount of money the insured must pay out of pocket before the insurance policy begins to cover the remaining cost of a claim while the excess is the amount the insured agrees to pay in addition to the deductible. By choosing a higher deductible and excess the insured is effectively taking on more financial risk in the event of a claim. However this increased risk results in a lower premium as the insurance company can reduce their potential payout in the event of a claim. In other words the insured is willing to pay more out of pocket in exchange for a lower premium. Therefore selecting a higher deductible and excess can help make an insurance policy more affordable.

Repair types

When it comes to car insurance policies there are two main types of repair options available: dealer type and garage type.

Dealer repair type & Garage repair type

The dealer repair type allows you to get your car fixed at the manufacturer's dealership whereas the garage repair type involves getting your car fixed at one of the networked garages of the insurance company. While both options have their advantages the dealer repair type is generally considered to be more expensive than the garage repair type. This is because the manufacturer's dealership often charges higher rates for parts and labor. On the other hand the garage repair type may be more convenient and cost-effective as the insurance company has pre-negotiated rates with their networked garages. Ultimately it's up to you to decide which type of repair option works best for your needs and budget.

Named-driver plans

Policyholders can reduce their car insurance premium by adding named drivers up to two drivers on their policy. This is because having more drivers on the policy reduces the risk for insurance companies. In case of more than two drivers policyholders can choose a no named driver plan as well. Additionally insurance companies also offer discounts based on the age range of the drivers.

  • Drivers in the age range of 18-24 can receive a discount of up to 5%
  • Drivers in the age range of 25-35 can receive a discount of up to 10
  • Drivers in the age range of 36-50 can receive a discount of up to 15%
  • Drivers in the age range of 51 and above can receive a discount of up to 20%

By taking advantage of these discounts policyholders can significantly reduce their car insurance premium.

Dashcam

Installing a dashcam in your car can have a significant impact on your car insurance premium. Many insurance companies offer discounts of up to 5% on car insurance premiums for drivers who have a dashcam installed in their vehicle.
